Family Involvement
At New Horizons Youth Ranch, families are part of the solution. When your child is acting out, your whole family system is challenged. In order to help you rebuild a healthy family, we ask you to actively participate throughout the New Horizon program.
Parent participation includes:
- Parent and child written communication
- Scheduled weekly calls with your child's clinician
- Two-day family workshop three times a year
Parent and child written communication
Parent letters are part of the therapeutic process for teens. Your letters allow your son to hear what you have to say without the usual emotional responses that often are tied to face-to-face contact. Written communication gives your child an opportunity to revisit and reflect on your words. Our trained staff helps them deal with any emotional responses from your correspondence. Letter writing gives you an opportunity to express concerns, share your love, and vent your feelings. Letter writing offers a safe way for you and your son to reopen communication and begin to redevelop a more meaningful relationship.
Scheduled weekly calls with your child's clinician
Parent communication with our clinician is part of the family education process.
Talking weekly with your child's clinician keeps you abreast of your son’s progress and aids our staff in better meeting your child's needs.

Where Help Brings Hope
“Mary Ann and I know the work you did with our son John had it’s tough times, however, it has all been worth it. He went from having been into heavy gang activity to graduating New Horizons Youth Ranch. Now John has gone on to one of his biggest dreams, which is to serve in the Army. We are excited, as several years ago John did not have a future ahead of him at all. John is a good person, a remarkable son and brother, and now is an amazing soldier. Thank you for seeing the potential in our son and working with him. We love you guys.”
