Academics

New Horizons Youth Ranch (NHYR) is an alternative approach for parents and kids who have exhausted the conventional approaches to their challenges and problems. All our boys are registered through our local school district (Lincoln County School District) with the use of independent study courses. All credits received are transferable back to their local school or college of choice.

It seems fitting that New Horizons Youth Ranch (NHYR) explores alternative approaches as well. The school setting here on the ranch is smaller and more functional for our residents.

Our teacher is Holly Evins who is Montana Accredited.

Many students who come to NHYR have already discovered that they learn in different ways, and at different paces than their peers. Some struggle with ADD or ADHD.

HorsesSince there is no education without a disciplined environment, respect for authority is transferred into the classroom.

This comes from the communication, love, truth, and consistent training given to each student in the program. Students come to realize their futures often depend on the choices they make today; and, that healthy choices, with God's help, can change the courses their lives have been on.

The main objective of NHYR is to provide a fully-accredited year-round school for the students of our program. We have designed our program to meet the following objectives:
  • To teach students how to learn and think analytically;
  • To teach decision making for a positive future;
  • To guide each student into career decisions appropriate to his abilities and gifts;
  • To develop the self-concept of the learner through positive educational experiences;
  • To give students a quality education in preparation to be productive members of society;
  • To meet the requirements for graduation as set forth by the State of Montana.
NHYR offers a general-education course specifically designed for the students' unique needs. Although we do utilize traditional textbooks in our academic courses, we also use various non-traditional educational techniques which are designed to more fully engage the student in his education.

NHYR operates directly under the administration and organization of NHYR, a 501(c) 3 non-profit ministry which has a governing board that meets semi-annually.

Our accountability groups, devotions, field trips, games, and horses are just some of the other healthy activities that kids can involve themselves in to grow in personal character.

Every activity at New Horizons Youth Ranch is designed
for a teachable moment.

Where Help Brings Hope

“When I arrived at your program close to two years ago, I thought this was just another program. Little did I know my life would be totally transformed. What I have discovered in this time is that God really loves me, in spite of the anger, drugs, poor choices, and extremely and family relationships. In this time of being in the program I have had to relearn and obtain new communication skills. Looking at Tom and Rosie, I consider them my 2nd Mom and Dad. Yes, I have parents in Texas, but through God and Tom and Rosie, I have come to love and appreciate my parents. This is so much more than I have ever believed possible.”
