Location
Nestled in the beautiful mountains of Montana facing the Canadian Rockies, New Horizons Youth Ranch offers a Christian residential program for teenage boys’ ages 12 to 17.
The ranch occupies 10 acres of land. The primary facility houses up to 12 boys currently and the property includes BBQ facility, cattle, horses, hot tub, ranch work, and Lake Koocanusa is just one mile form the ranch where the boys fish and swim.
Meet Our Staff
Rosie & Tom Harrell –President and Admissions Director as Founders of New Horizons Youth Ranch
Rosie and Tom Harrell are married with 4 children and 3 grandchildren. They have been working with boys at New Horizons Youth Ranch since 1999. Within the family setting, Tom serves as the father figure and mentor for the teen boys. He mentor’s spiritually, as well as with the much needed daily living skills and responsibilities every young man needs to learn and know. Tom’s 25 plus years of experience in all aspects of construction as a licensed contractor have been utilized at New Horizons Youth Ranch as he and the boys recently finished building a house locally for a neighboring resident.
This community service project served as an excellent opportunity for the boys to train in vocational skills as well as experience the gift of giving. In addition to the construction skills, there are many other opportunities available to learn life skills. One area of emphasis is learning to help and serve others. Some of the projects recently completed range from making a cross-country trip to assist a neighbor with a move to Tennessee to preparing and distributing almost 300 evangelistic Christmas gift bags for students in the local public school. Additionally, Tom teaches the boys a variety of outdoor skills through hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, horseback, and camping excursions.
As the Admissions Director, Rosie brings accumulated wisdom and experience to New Horizons Youth Ranch.
Jeremy Evagine - Senior Staff Team Leader & Youth Pastor
Jeremy is 26 and married. He has a heart for missions and for youth. Jeremy has established an orphanage in India and continues attend different mission trip abroad.
Jeremy is the Youth Pastor of the Chapel of Praise where we all attend church and he mentors the boys spiritually as well as emotionally.
Jeremy has a great deal of experience in the construction trade as well as with tile work and mentors the boys in learning these trades as well.
Jeremy assists the boys with their chores and engages in them with various indoor and outdoor activities. Jeremy leads groups and assists in facilitating and improving communication among the boys and their family members.
Jeremy is currently assisting Tom Harrell with establishing routine missions trips for the boys at New Horizons Youth Ranch.
Kole Evins - Senior Staff Team Leader
Kole is a 27 year old young man with a heart and desire for God. He has worked in Youth Ministry for a good number of years, helping facilitate a wide variety of youth activities.
Kole is very dedicated to working with youth and mentoring them toward positive value systems. Kole has worked for 9 years in construction and mentors the boys at New Horizons Youth Ranch in the building trade.
This ranges from learning how to read blueprints at the beginning of a project to final completion of a project. Kole has also worked as a professional painter and this is incorporated in tarring with the boys as the needs arise. Kole, as well as other staff at New Horizons Youth Ranch, as well as the boys are currently involved in the building of a Youth Center in the local community.
This project, upon completion, will open up a variety of ministry opportunities.
Kole works right along side with the boys when completing both indoor and outdoor chores. He has a way of compelling them to be excited and enthused about learning the ranch work, as well as assists in the boys in learning such things as fishing, hiking, horseback riding and hunting.
Kole leads groups and assists in facilitating better communication among the boys and their family members.
Campbell Knight - Junior Staff Team Leader
Campbell is a graduate of New Horizon Youth Ranch and leads with enthusiasm and heart as he pursues his passion for ministry. Being a graduate of the program, Campbell has quite a lot to offer all the boys. First of all he offers great energy and excitement.
Campbell is excited at the opportunity to offer spiritual mentoring, as well as assisting with the Bible studies group, the Celebrate Recovery Group and he is part of the youth worship team. The Celebrate Recovery Group is very effective for all the boys, no matter what their life challenges may be when they arrive. Campbell assists senior staff members on all the outings with the boys. He plays a major role in group due to his own previous experiences and the boys look up to him as a positive role model.
Kit Evins – Staff Team Member
Kit is a 24 year old young man with an amazing heart fro God coupled with a desire to work with and minister to youth. Kit is very gifted musically and writes as well as sings in a worship team with his older brother Kerroll and sister-in-law Holly. Kit works in construction and mentors the boys in the building industry. This ranges from setting forms to framing to finishing work on a house. Kit is a part of the group working to complete the building of the Youth Center. Upon completion of the Youth Center there will be a variety of ministry opportunities available from playing games to having guest speakers as well as the ability to hold concerts. Kit also works with the boys in teaching basic mechanics such as changing oil, checking the tires and other various mechanic skills. Kit also is a part of the ranch team and mentors the boys in how to manage cattle and horses. Kit enjoys outdoor activities with the boys such as archery, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and swimming.
He facilitates group meetings and mentors the boys in improving their communication skills. Kit also leads Bible Study as well as daily devotions and prayer time. Kit is very instrumental in assisting the boys recognize negative destructive patterns and works at developing and promoting life changing healing and restoration.
Jeffrey Scogin M.A. - Therapist
Jeffrey Scogin provides individual and group therapy for the boys at New Horizons Youth Ranch. He facilitates an environment enabling each one to sort out issues too difficult to reveal in a larger setting. Individual and group therapy addresses issues related to managing and coping with destructive behaviors such as anger, drug abuse, disrespect, peer pressure, difficulties in school, and relationships difficulties.
Pastor Allen - Spiritual Advisor
Pastor Allen is the local pastor of the Mission Church in West Kootenai.
He serves as a spiritual advisor and mentor for New Horizons Youth Ranch by leading and directing various group Bible studies. Pastor Allen is also available to provide individual spiritual counseling for the boys.
Pastor Curtis McDuffie – Pastor & Ministry Advisor
“Pastor Curt” has been at Chapel of Praise for the past 7 years as their Senior Pastor. He and his wife “Ms. Stephanie”, as all the youth call her; have two teenage boys and a big heart for the youth in the local area. Reaching out to the youth and offering love and support comes naturally to them.
Pastor Curt is available for counseling and mentoring with the boys as well as the staff at New Horizons Youth Ranch. The boy’s look up to Pastor Curt as an amazing role model and spiritual advisor. He knows and understands the struggles that are facing the young people of today – the youth of the 21st Century. Pastor Curt is an amazing man and a quite a blessing to New Horizons Youth Ranch.
